U13 / FATIHA’S ART PRACTICE

A line. A shadow. Another try.

Fatiha follows her interest in art through self-directed sketching, shading and face-drawing practice. YouTube is one of the places she finds techniques to try.

Following an interest in drawing

Atif reports that Fatiha spends time on artwork and is good at shading and sketching. She is practising how to draw faces, watching YouTube to learn and continuing the practice herself.

Art adds another dimension to the family’s learning alongside science, technology, engineering and maths. Her interests have their own place in U13’s story.

Feedback instead of constant instruction

Atif says neither Fatiha nor Ayesha now needs much direct guidance. He mainly highlights mistakes so they can improve their work themselves.

For Fatiha, this means the learning remains self-directed while her father contributes feedback. He describes his role as helping her notice what can improve, rather than teaching every technique.

Space for her actual work

Artwork photographs to come

Fatiha’s actual sketches have not yet been supplied. This space will show her sketches and how they change with practice.

A future gallery can place a sketch beside a later attempt, with a short explanation of what she changed and which guidance she used. That is a proposed way of documenting her process.

Taking the work seriously

Atif says he brings expectations beyond what he would ordinarily associate with an eight- or nine-year-old. He compares their expertise and exposure with that of an eighteen-year-old preparing to earn.

This is his personal assessment and the seriousness with which he approaches their work. It is not a formally measured age-equivalent skill level or a confirmed earning outcome.

This account comes from Atif’s experience at home. Suggested activities and plans for wider participation are described separately.
